Remove PDF Metadata
Clear the hidden trail a PDF carries: authoring application, workstation name, creation and modification timestamps, and embedded XMP. Useful when you are sharing a file outside your organisation and do not want that information travelling with it.
XMP is a separate XML block that often holds more detail than the visible properties.
How remove pdf metadata works
- Add your PDFsFiles are checked for a real PDF header before anything is parsed.
- Clear the propertiesAuthor, title, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates are emptied, and the XMP block is dropped if you ask for it.
- Download the cleaned filesPage content is untouched, so the documents look and read exactly the same.
What you get
Strip author, device and timestamp data from a PDF before sharing. Everything happens inside this page: the file is read by your browser, transformed in memory and handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload queue, no waiting for a server, and nothing left behind when you close the tab.
Supported formats
Furtu accepts .pdf files up to 500 MB each, and processes up to 20 files in one run.
- Every file is checked against its real file signature, not just its name, so a renamed or corrupt file is rejected with an explanation instead of failing halfway through.
- Files over the limit are refused up front rather than after a long wait.
Limitations, stated up front
- This clears stored properties only. Personal data printed into page content is not removed.
- Digital signatures are invalidated by rewriting the file.
Frequently asked questions
Does this remove the text in the document?
No. Only the stored properties are cleared. If the document body itself contains personal data — a name in a letterhead, an author in a footer — you need to edit that separately.
Is the result still a valid PDF?
Yes. The metadata block is optional in the PDF specification, so removing it leaves a fully valid, readable document.
Are the files uploaded before the metadata is stripped?
No. That is the whole point of doing it locally: the document is opened, rewritten and handed back in your browser, so the personal data in it never crosses a network connection in the first place.
